If my tour operator doesn't have an environmental program, is there anything I can do to compensate for this?

If the company you choose lacks an environmental program, or you're traveling by bus or car, you can do your own calculations with an online carbon calculator, like the one available at The Carbon Fund (www.carbonfund.org) The organization lets you choose from three types of projects to offset your emissions: renewable energy, energy efficiency or reforestation. They also recognize the importance of establishing projects in disadvantaged areas that need job creation programs.
